He was born on 9th of August 1974 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu to Superstar Krishna and Indira Devi. He has four siblings; Ramesh Babu, Padmavathi, Manjula and a younger sister Priyadarshini.
He did his schooling at St Bede’s School in Chennai and obtained a degree in Commerce from Loyola College, Chennai.
He married Bollywood actress and former Miss India Namrata Shirodkar who is two year older than him on February 10th, 2005.
On August 31, 2006, Mahesh and Namrata's were blessed with their first son "Gautam "
